1000 PLUS FATALITIES DURING HAJJ PILGRIMAGE IN SAUDIA ARABIA THIS YEAR

Image
1,000 plus people died during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia as pilgrims endured extreme heat at Islamic holy sites in the desert kingdom, officials reported on Sunday. Over half of the fatalities were Egyptians, according to two Cairo officials. In response, Egypt revoked the licenses of 16 travel agencies that facilitated unauthorized pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia, authorities stated. Saudi Arabia has not commented on the deaths during the pilgrimage, which is a religious obligation for every able Muslim at least once in their lifetime. The Egyptian government reported the death of 31 authorized pilgrims due to chronic illnesses during this year’s Hajj, but did not provide an official count for other pilgrims. Military corruption has abruptly become unacceptable amidst the wartime environment in President Putin's Russia.

Russia’s war in Ukraine has become a potent anti-corruption effort, particularly within the Ministry of Defense. To ensure that the nation's growing military and security budget translates into more soldiers, weapons, and supplies on the front lines, the Kremlin has initiated a vigorous crackdown—removing officials with lavish lifestyles or those critical of military leadership. Last month, President Vladimir Putin reassigned his long-serving defense minister, Sergei Shoigu, to head Russia’s national security council. Replacing Shoigu, Putin appointed former economy minister Andrei Belousov, instructing him to manage the defense budget "sparingly yet effectively." More notably, since April, five top officials, including a deputy defense minister, have been arrested, signaling that the Kremlin will not tolerate either extravagance or disloyalty during wartime. Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, the highest-ranking official arrested, led an opulent lifestyle, typical o

The criminal trial of Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, is entering its final phase as the defense seeks to undermine the prosecution's case, which has highlighted some of the most challenging periods of Hunter Biden's history with drug addiction. The defense may call at least one more witness when the trial resumes in federal court in Delaware on Monday. It's uncertain whether the prosecution will introduce any rebuttal witnesses before the case proceeds to closing arguments and is handed to the jury. Hunter Biden faces three felony charges related to the purchase of a firearm in October 2018. The prosecution alleges that he lied on a required form by stating he was not using drugs or addicted to them. Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty, arguing that the Justice Department was influenced by political pressure from former President Donald Trump and other Republicans. His lawyers contend that he did not see himself as an "addict" when he filled out the fo

Nvidia’s stock climbed 5.2% to close at $1,224.40, giving the company a valuation of $3.012 trillion. Meanwhile, Apple’s market capitalization was $3.003 trillion after its stock increased by 0.8%.
